Friday 1/26

☕️☃️🧦 Good morning crew. This morning Jurgen Klopp has announced his decision to leave Liverpool FC at the end of the season. Klopp’s current contract runs until 2026, and Liverpool very much remain a contenders for many titles this season, Premier League, Carabao Cup final, Europa League and FA Cup. Klopp’s stepping down was definitely not on our 2024 bingo card. An end of era that started in 2015 and brought Liverpool’s first Premier League title, FA Cup, and a UEFA Champions League. Our salute to arguably a Liverpool legend.

Top Revenue Generating Clubs

@Deloitte Football Money League 2024

💰️💸I want you to put the word out there, we back up; Clubs generated record matchday revenues of €1.9bn in 2022/23. This is mainly attributed to the high-level demand and stadiums opening up at full capacity across continental Europe. The Money League compiled by Deloitte, ranks football clubs in terms of revenues but not their profit and loss.

  • Real Madrid have eclipsed Manchester City to become the highest revenue generating football club for the first time since 2017/18

  • Spurs have leapfrogged Chelsea to become the 8th richest club in the world, Spurs have benefited from increased matchday revenue as well as hosting events outside of football including NFL matches

  • FC Barcelona made some big boy moves jumping to 4th from 7th, with its growth brought from their fans, record licensing and sponsorship revenues

  • Eintracht Frankfurt ranked 16th by virtue of their progression to the UCL Round of 16 for the first time in their history

🤔💭Super League what? who? With the impressive figures, it makes you wonder if clubs need a Super League, how much more money would they earn? Considering that many clubs have reported an increase in broadcast revenue, This season alone many clubs have reported an increase in broadcast revenue along with commercial revenues.

  • 12 of the original clubs from the failed Super League snagged a spot on the top revenue list; Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter, Juventus, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City Manchester United, AC Milan, and Tottenham

  • 17 of the top 20 clubs have reported a year-on-year increase in commercial revenue, improved retail sales, and revenue from non-match day events

  • Revenues of 15 of the highest revenue generating women’s clubs in European football grew 61% in the 2022/23 season

Transfer News- January Window

@SkySports

🔵⚪️🦁 Blues legend agrees to stay! Sam Kerr inks a deal extending her contract at Stamford Bridge. Since joining the Blues from Chicago Red Stars in 2019, Kerr has been a prolific goalscorer finding the back of the net 99 times in 128 matches, winning the league four times, the FA cup three times, and two league cups. Unfortunately, Kerr ruptured her ACL which kept her out of the season and with her contract set to expire this summer, Chelsea wasted no time in extending their stud’s contract a long time. Chelsea currently lead the Woman’s Super League three points over Manchester City. Chelsea are keen to temporarily fill in the void left from Kerr’s injury.

🐔👑 Reunited and it feels so gut, Bayern Munich have only made one new signing so far this transfer window, and it was bringing on Harry Kane’s longtime former Spurs teammate, Eric Dier. Dier made his debut, sharing the pitch with Kane, in Bayern’s 1-0 victory over Union Berlin.

  • Dier signed inked his Spurs deal back in 2014, while Kane was brought through their youth academy

  • The two each recorded over 200 appearances in the last decade. But have yet to taste any silverware during their long tenure with the Spurs, will they finally taste glory with The Bavarians?

  • Xabi Alonso and Bayern Leverkusen seem keen on maintaining their spot at the top, and look to ruining Dier and Kane’s debut season with Bayern Munich
