Operation Kylian Mbappe

@CaughtOffSides

❌🥐⛔️ Sacre bleu! World-Cup winner Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain he will leave the club at the end of the season. The French international has informed PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he would not stay at club when his contract expires.

  • The Parisian affair began in 2017 when Mbappe joined from fellow Ligue 1 club Monaco

  • The 25-year-old signed a new two-year contract in the summer of 2021 that included a 12-month extension for the 2024-25 season which had a triggering deadline this past July 2023… Mbappe did not trigger it

  • PSG received a €300m offer for Mbappe from Al Hilal this past summer, Mbappe leaving does not directly generate funds as he will leave as a free agent

  • Since his time with PSG, Mbappe has racked in 243 goals and 105 assists in 290 appearances with 13 trophies

  • PSG just won their round of 16 first leg against Real Sociedad 2-0 yesterday

🚦👑🔜 New Galacticos era in Europe? Real Madrid are the overwhelming favourites to sign Mbappe. This might arguably be one of the finest performances seen from Agent Perez. Since May 2022, Madrid have been sliding into Mbappe’s DMs with offers which the Frenchman turned down to extend his stay at PSG.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo left the club in 2018, and Karim Benzema followed him out the door this past summer. Luka Modric may be playing the end of times at the Spanish capital as well

  • Los Blancos were in close contact with Mbappe’s camp and were informed of his PSG decision as early as Tuesday

  • Mbappe has known since last month how prepared Madrid are to sign him this summer, it’s been reported the contract terms offered are lower than the offer proposed in 2022, but Mbappe would still become the highest paid player in Perez’ Squad

  • With Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham, as well as Endrick’s impending arrival, Madrid’s attacking options just got spicer

💸🪟🫥 End of Galacticos era in Europe? While another Galacticos era in Madrid is about to bless the game, a huge what-if looms over PSG. With his long-expected au devoir, the 25-year-old French international is the last of PSG’s decedent super-team policy. Exemplifying that policy was the attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe. But that project might as well been a fart during a hurricane. Messi left for Inter Miami in July 2023, Neymar left for Saudi Side Al Hilal the following month, and fast forward 6 months later Mbappe is exiting.

Prior to the Messi-Neymar-Mbappe trident, PSG’s prior tridents consisted of

  • 2012-2013: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lucas Moura

  • 2013-2015: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, Lucas Moura

  • 2015-2016: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria

  • 2016-2017: Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria, Lucas Moura

  • 2017-2019: Edinson Cavani, Neymar, Mbappe

  • 2019-2020: Icardi, Neymar, Mbappe

  • 2020-2021: Moise Kean, Neymar, Mbappe

  • 2021-2023: Lionel Messi, Mbappe, Neymar

  • The French champions have a plethora of remaining attacking options, Goncalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembele, Marco Asensio and Bradley Barcola

🫶🐐 Move over Taylor, here’s a true love story. Angel Di Maria, arguably an Argentinian legend. He has won everything there is in soccer; FIFA World Cup, Copa America, CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and countless league titles and cups during his time with Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, and Benfica. At the shy age of 36-year-old and coming from winning a World Cup, his career in Europe came full circle when he rejoined Portuguese side Benfica, where he played between 2007-2010 when he moved from Argentina’s Rosario Central before bagging his big move to Real Madrid.

  • The Argentine spent the season before with Serie A side Juventus, prior to returning to Benfica

  • With open arms, Benfica welcomed Di Maria

  • Benfica hosted Toulouse for the first leg of UEFA’s Europa League Round of 32

  • After finding the back of the net to give them the lead in the 68th minute, Benfica conceded a goal to tie the match 7 minutes later, Angel Di Maria bagged the winner in stoppage time to win the match
