Weekend Recap

The Hype Was Real

Via Tenor

💪⚔️ Chelsea 2 - Arsenal 2. Pochettino and his men fail to hang on to a 2-0 lead as Arsenal dramatically fought for a tie at Stamford Bridge. It’s one of those ties that feels like a loss for Chelsea fans but a win for Arsenal. Mudryk scores his first home goal for Chelsea. Cross or no cross? That’s for you to judge. Trossard equalizes in the 84th minute to complete the comeback. Make sure to support our Yankees Abroad, Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream travel to London for some tea time against the Tottenham Spurs.

🌐🟥 AC Milan 0 - Juventus 1. La Vecchia Signora made the most against a 10-man AC Milan team for 50 minutes. AC Milan defendant Malick was shown a direct red in the 40th minute after dragging down Moisie Kean, resulting in fellow Yankee Christian Pulisic getting strategically subbed off to compensate the defense. USMNT Timothy Weah later claimed revenge as he set up an assist to Italian midfielder Locatelli to secure Juve their 3 points bringing them to 3rd in the Serie A.

💀💥 Internacional 7 - Santos FC 1. Usually when we play FIFA with the fellas, we would apply a 3 goal mercy rule, mainly out of respect to our Intern Jose. However, Internacional showed zero mercy to Santos by putting 7 past them. Everyone got in on the action, with Ecuadorian legend Enner Valencia snagging a brace and even Santos managed score on themselves. This defeat is the latest string of losses Santos has sustained this season, leaving them sitting pretty in 18th place. Meanwhile, Internacional sits not too far off at 12th place in this year’s Serie A.

Antoine Griezmann, AKA Mr. 250

Hotline Bling Football GIF by Atlético de Madrid

Gif by Atleti on Giphy

💇‍♂️💈 Short hair Griezmann is back. The French player has found his best form again, and this weekend he completed a hat-trick to reach a career milestone: 250 goals for club soccer. For many fans, the existence of Messi and Ronaldo has for a long time set unreal expectations and almost downplay milestones such as this one. But not us, we’re giving the man his flowers and the recognition he deserves 💐.

🐂👶 Destined for Spanish Club Soccer. Real Sociedad scouted Griezmann at the age of 12, they saw a real promise in the young player despite his size. His Club career path went from Real Sociedad → Atletico Madrid → FC Barcelona → Atletico Madrid. He’s played a total of 507 matches in Spain and doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.

🏆🌍 World Cup Champion at 28. The French squad of 2018 was a legendary one, looking unbeatable and winning the final against Croatia quite easily 4-2. Griezmann was an integral part of that team, and although a young Mbappe won the MVP that tournament, it could have been argued that Griezmann deserved that award just as much.

No Appetite for Uber Eats Ligue 1

🙈 🫣 🧑‍🦯 French Professional Football League at risk of disappearing. The home of historic clubs, Monaco, Lille, Paris St Germain, and Marseille etc., has received zero bids for broadcasting rights. Longtime broadcasting partner, Canal Plus, has failed to make an offer for the 2024-29 cycles. Canal Plus has shown top-flight football in France since 1984. This failure has forced the French Professional Football League (“FPFL”) to launch a bid in hopes of selling the broadcasting rights of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 games. The catch? No one wants to pay the hefty £693 million annual fee to broadcast those games.

🐸 🍵 This could not have happened at a worst time. The FPFL is already struggling and treading water to maintain the viewership after the recent departures of their two biggest stars, Lionel Messi and Neymar from Paris Saint- German. Not to mention, it looks almost certain that Kylian Mbappe’s future is pointing away from the French Capital.

🎺 🎺 🎺 New kid on the block. The Saudi Arabia Pro League recent influx of high-priced players and coaches has taken the football world by storm. With their latest investments, the Pro League is expected to have double the viewership than both Ligue-1 & Ligue-2. However, the Pro League is not safe from their own dismay, considering the injury of their latest superstar Neymar, which will surely cost them views.
