Monday 6/10

☕️🏆️⚽️ Good morning everyone! There’s been a lot of buzz around the Club World Cup to take place next summer Stateside, but it sounds like one team might be leading the charge to re-negotiate some terms. Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid’s head coach, recently mentioned that one Real Madrid match is worth $20 million, but FIFA is proposing that amount for the whole tournament, per team. It sounds like the terms will need to change if we expect to see Madrid and other big teams take part.

😟 👎️ Not a great look for the USMNT as they fall 5-1 to Colombia. The USMNT, on paper, has one of the best teams in their history. This Saturday, their starting 11 comprised of a record number of players that play in the top 5 European leagues, but that wasn’t enough to show a strong performance against Colombia. It unraveled rather quickly, with Colombia scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes, the rest came after the 77th minute. The USMNT have scheduled another South American powerhouse, Brazil, for their next warm up match. One one end, if you want to win the tournament, you’re going to need to beat the likes of Colombia and Brazil, but on the other end, perhaps scheduling both of these teams will make the team lose confidence before it even starts.

🧳🌎️Boarding Soon? FIFA Looks to clear path to allow LaLiga and Premier League games in U.S. FIFA has moved towards ending decades of football tradition by reviewing the rules that block domestic league games being played in other countries. La Liga has already said it hopes to play league matches abroad by 2025.

Group of 10 to 15 individuals; FIFA has taken a steps towards allowing domestic leagues to play competitive matches abroad after announcing a new group would be formed to “issue recommendations” on the topic. The governing body said the group will be independent but that its work must take into account a series of principles, several of which assume a positive decision to stage matches internationally. The panel will advisee within months on amending the rules on so-called “out-of-territory” games. The rules were last amended in 2014.

  • The group will have experience from across the game, including clubs, leagues and supporter associations

  • The new FIFA policy will likely be attractive to the growing number of international owners of European clubs, including the wave of U.S. investors in the English Premier League, Italy's Serie A and France's Ligue 1, as well as state-backed teams like Abu Dhabi-owned Manchester City, Qatar-owned Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi-owned Newcastle United.
