Tuesday UCL games see Arsenal and FC Barcelona through to quarterfinals

📈⚽ Arsenal and FC Barcelona move to quarterfinals for first time in a long time. For Barcelona, after beating Napoli, it’s the first time reaching the quarterfinals since Messi left back in 2020. For Arsenal, they hadn’t reached the quarterfinals since 2010. Even after performing better than expected, Xavi assuered the press that he is in fact leaving after the season is over, and that next season he will be watching as a spectator. Arsenal fans had to wait until the very last possible minute to see their team go through after a dramatic penalty shootout.

• in the 15th minute, 20-year-old Fermin Lopez answered Raphinha’s call and broke the deadlock

• The Brazilian international was instrumental in Barcelona doubling their lead only just two minutes later, after collecting a pass from an insane deep run by 16-year-old Lamine Yamal to only set Cancelo up a rebound for Barca’s 2nd goal

• Napoli soon mustered confidence to snag their first bag just before halftime

• Minutes into the 2nd half, Ilkay Gundogan played a lovely one-two with Robert before squaring it up to Lewandowski re-securing Barca’s 2 goal lead

👶🍼Barca’s Cadets New Era? In their 2nd leg face off, Blaugrana box Xavi Hernandez fielded 3 players who in the States could not share a beer with the lads. 20-year-old Fermin Lopez, 17-year-old Pau Cubarsi, and 16-year-old Lamine Yamal. The youth led Barca to their well-deserved victory.

• Lamine Yamal snagging a starting spot in the 1-1 draw in Naples makes him the youngest player to begin a knockout stage match in this competition

• Even with Yamal’s impressive performance, it was the 17-year-old Cubarsi who took home man of the match

• Cubarsi is the youngest defender to represent Barca in the Champions League

• Xavi may be out at the end of the season, but the fruit of his baptism of the youth has paid

• Out of the 29 players to feature for Barca this season, 11 of them are below 21 years of age
