Player Spotlight
Johnny Cardoso, Born in NJ → Debuting In Spain

Via Betis

🌍⚽ 22 year old USMNT player debuts in Spain. Cardoso was born in New Jersey in 2001, and he had the option to play for either the Brazilian National team on the count that both of his parents were Brazilian, or choosing the United States Men’s National Team. Cardoso moved back to Brazil at just 3 months old, and grew up in the Brazilian soccer system, making his professional debut back in 2019. That same year, Cardoso was called up to the USA U-23 and made his decision to play for the USMNT.

Most recently, Cardoso transferred to Spain in December of 2023, and made his official debut for Real Betis against FC Barcelona. Although Real Betis ended up losing the game, Cardoso started the game and put in a 73 minute shift, leaving the game with the score tied at 2-2. With a busy Summer for the USMNT, having another midfielder add up minutes in Europe is a big win.
