Yankees in Champions League

0️⃣-0️⃣ Soccer hater’s favorite scoreline. AC Milan started off the game looking dangerous with Newcastle weathering the storm. But somewhere in the middle of the game, both teams looked lost some steam. Perhaps legs were heavy from big games this past weekend, but neither team could capitalize, Milan having most of the opportunities.

Pulisic came off the bench at the 61st minute but didn’t have himself a very exciting game. As a sub, you don’t get a lot of chances to make an impact, and unfortunately the few that Pulisic lead to mistakes. He didn’t hold back from his attacking style however, taking a couple of shots but failing to score.

But Musah 🔥. He had himself quite a game with only 20 minutes to make an impact coming off the bench at the 72nd minute. 100% accuracy on his 12 passes, and he brought the intensity that Milan needed to finish the game strong. After only having 4 minutes of play over the weekend vs Inter Milan, Musah made his minutes count in Champions League play. Catch AC Milans next game early on Saturday at 9:00am EST vs Hellas Verona.

Late Game Heroics By Provedel

➡️➡️Lazio went full FIFA Ultra Attacking mode. Lazio had plenty of chances during the game, with a total of 19 shots against Atletico Madrid. That 19th shot is the one that tied the game, and it was done by their goalkeeper Ivan Provedel. And his celebration was ice cold 🥶. Helicopter swinging his shirt would have been a perfectly suitable celebration after tying the game in the dying seconds, but Provedel just mean mugged while his teammates did all the screaming and jumping for him.

😵‍💫Man City were in trouble. For a total of two minutes.. They conceded a goal at the end of the first half and it took Julian Alvarez a total of two minutes into the second half to tie the game up. City eventually completed the comeback. 37(!) shots were launched at the Red Star’s keeper.

Busy day at the office for him. City certainly did struggle to convert chances into goals however, but if you’re going to have trouble scoring, might as well be the first game of the tournament. Don’t think Pep is too worried yet.

😁All smiles from Felix and Barcelona. Could it be? Has Joao Felix found his fit with Barcelona? The 5-0 score line really doesn’t tell us much about the Blaugranas, except for the fact that they did what they were supposed to do. The Catalans failed to make it out of the group stages last season and found themselves playing on Thursdays in Europa League, so we’re sure that a big win on opening night takes some of the pressure off. Now on to Porto and Shakhtar to see if they can continue their strong form.

Wednesday's Games to watch

Manchester United vs Bayern Munich. Clash of titans. At least, historically this would have been called as such. Unfortunately, United are in pretty rough shape at the moment, and with injuries to make this worse, their odds to win this one are not looking great (Vegas has them at +500). But Champions League is Champions League, and anything can happen. Teams hear that CL anthem and get inspired. So of course, we’ll be watching and hoping that Manchester brings a fight to give us all a show.

🔥🔥Arsenal vs PSV. We got three Americans on PSV so of course we’re keeping an eye out for this game. To Arsenal fans, it’s been a long road- but you’re finally back to playing Champions League soccer. Coming off an incredible run last season and in form currently, Arsenal are favored to win (-270) but it’s important to know that Arsenal have a handful of players that don’t have any experience in this tournament, so they’ll be sure to start off with some nerves.

From Temple University to Philadelphia Union

T-Shirt contest and a dream. Live Breathe Futbol won a t-shirt design contest for Philadelphia Union back in 2011. Fast forward to the 2023 season, the soccer lifestyle brand is partnering with the MLS club to release a 9 piece collection for the season. These are the stories that we love at Stateside, and we’ll make sure to support them whether it be for future club collabs or standalone merch. Make sure to check out their instagram for the latest news from this Philly based brand.
